I’m trying not to be impulsive . . .

I’m finding myself getting easily sidetracked. I/we think we want to get a puppy or a young dog and we’re doing our homework as to what breed. That’s good and necessary. However, I read and hear about puppy mills being raided and that there are now tens and thousands of puppies in need of homes. I think, “I want a puppy, maybe we can get one from the puppy mills.” But then I read on or listen further and realize the breeds aren’t really what we want. They don’t fit our lifestyle and really, that is so important. After all, if I want the dog to go walking and jogging with me, a dachshund won’t fit. So, I have to rein myself in and keep focused. We’re not ready yet to adopt.

Yesterday I was at our local garden supply/pet store with my son. He was helping me pick out seeds for our vegetable garden. We both heard what sounded like a lamb. Being curious, my son went to check it out. They have baby pigmy goats! They are so cute. But I can’t take one walking and jogging. (Focus! Focus! Focus!) This is what I’m up against – ME! Jeesh. I’m going to different web sites and taking their quizzes. They’re not in agreement. Some say I should have one breed, while another site says something else. One site that is helpful is CalmoDogTraining.com. They have all the different AKC dog breeds with a little information on each breed. That helps. So, as long as I keep myself focused, I’ll be all right. I think!
