Some dogs will greet people with enthusiasm. Sometimes a little too much enthusiasm. What comes to my mind are the retrievers like the Black, yellow, chocolate labs, and the golden retriever. They have lots and lots of energy. I could walk them to the moon and back before they’d be knocked out. I don’t think I’d have to worry about dog bites either. No, I don’t hunt. But they make good companion dogs too and good family dogs. I have a cousin who has had black and chocolate labs for years. He loves them. They’ve been good family dogs with their 2 kids. I have friends that have had Golden Retrievers too and they make good companion and family dogs. I think one problem for me is that I see so many labs around my neighborhood and golden retrievers too. When I go on my walks there is usually one to 3 labs and one golden retriever that tries to follow me home. That is one reason I refer to them as ‘everybody’s friend’. They will often follow anyone home. I am more of a one family type dog. The Kuvasz is a one family dog. They’re less apt to follow anyone home or jump into anyone’s car. I’m not ruling out the Labs or the Retrievers yet because I like the spunk and energy they have. They might have more energy than I have and that could be a problem.
I know they shed – a lot. But most dogs do and I’m not letting that be a deal breaker. They will bark a lot if left alone. I really only want to get one dog. So, I’m not sure how to take care of the excessive barking. I would have to talk with a trainer I think – right? I have a nephew that is less than 2 years old and I’d hate to have the dog bounce off the kid. I know that Labs can get bouncy. Of course, we could get one that isn’t a puppy and then we’d know better the personality. Puppies are hard to know what they’re personality is until it’s too late.
Okay – I’m back to checking things out. For me it helps to write things down. Labs, retrievers are good dogs, make good family pets. They’d be good dogs to take on a walk, although they can be difficult because they’d want to play with everyone and/or every other dog they see, hear or think they hear. The dog would be alone many hours in the day while I’m at work and might bark or chew. That would be bad. I would have to leave it outside unless I could trust it with my bird. Can they be trusted with birds? Oh gee, I’d have to check on that one. Where I live it gets extremely cold and I wouldn’t be able to leave the dog outside in the winter.
Well, for now, I’m still on the move looking for the right fit for my family. Wish me luck!
